THE CRAFTSMANSHIP OF YKK 06

Even the tape is carefully crafted!

Tape is just fabric, isn't it? No, if you look closely at a strip of tape, there are actually several sections.

There are different sections, even on
the same strip of tape!

(1) Where the elements are attached (2) Where the slider passes through (or makes contact) (3) Where it is sewn onto clothing or bags

A strip of tape is divided into several sections, based on its characteristics.
(1) Where the elements are attached
(2) Where the slider passes through (or makes contact)
(3) Where it is sewn onto clothing or bags

A strip of tape has
a different weave structure,
depending on the section!

(1) Core cord structure (2) Part requiring high strength (3) Easy-to-sew weave structure

Strength is required in some sections, while other sections need to be easy to sew. Tape is designed with each section's specific characteristics in mind, so even within the same strip of tape, there are subtle differences depending on the section.

We use weaving techniques tailored to each section's function.

(1) Core cord structure

The edge of the tape that touches the element is made bulkier, like a cord, to ensure a secure fit.

(2) Part requiring high strength

We've increased the weave density to make the threads less prone to breakage, even when touched by the slider.

(3) Easy-to-sew weave structure

We've designed the structure to make it easy to sew tape onto clothing and bags.

A good zipper starts with
its tape thread!

We make strips of tape by weaving threads vertically and horizontally using machinery.
At YKK, we conduct research and development to ensure that each strip of tape is woven with the optimal structure, starting with the thread.

Such attention to detail, concealed within one strip of tape. For good zippers, we think carefully about both materials and processes.
