January 26, 2018 Passive Town Obtains the Top Five-Star Rating (☆☆☆☆☆) Under the Building-Housing Energy-efficiency Labeling System (BELS)

 The first, second ,and building J of the block of Passive Town*1, under development by YKK Real Estate Co., Ltd. (Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Tadahiro Yoshida) in Kurobe City, Toyama Prefecture, has obtained the top rating of Five Stars (☆☆☆☆☆) under BELS*2, a building energy-efficiency performance labeling system determined by the Association for Housing Performance Evaluation & Labeling.

 In BELS, agencies registered with the Association for Housing Performance Evaluation & Labeling carry out the evaluation and labeling. The evaluation of Passive Town was carried out by BELS-registered Center for Better Living, which granted Passive Town the aforementioned rating (please see attachment for details).

 Passive Town's energy-efficiency performance and passive design are evaluated based on actual measurements by the Passive Design Performance Evaluation Committee*3, the members of which are focused around external experts. The living style here will be reviewed while exchanging opinions with actual residents of Passive Town, and the evaluation results are scheduled to be made public. Efforts will not end with this obtainment of the BELS certification. Together with the Passive Design Performance Evaluation Committee, a passive and comfortable way of living that utilizes the regional climate and characteristics will continue to be pursued and proposed going forward.
