Akashi Kaikyo Bridge is a 3,911 meter long suspension bridge that links Honshu and Awaji Island. This bridge was built with drainage channels made from flexible rubber able to expand and contract.

These drainage channels not only collect water but also garbage found on the road. By attaching YKK^® zippers that do not let water or air through, the zippers can be opened to remove the garbage in these drainage channels only when necessary. This effort prevents garbage in the road from falling into the sea. YKK^® zippers are also aiding in protecting the environment.
