SHOULD WE CONSIDER FUTURE CHANGE A DANGER,OR AN OPPORTUNITY?

YKK zippers are used around the world. Upon hearing that, many would assume that YKK had already a successful, stable business, but that would be a big mistake. The price competition with China and other prominent Asian nations has gotten fiercer, and speed is becoming more and more of the essence. In the architectural product business, the various greater added value has been required from single-family home to high-rise building. The business environment that surrounds YKK Group is in a state of flux. But we should not see these changes as crisis, we should see them as opportunities for us to evolve and continue to move aggressively forward.

WE MUST DEVISE A GLOBAL BUSINESS MODEL THAT OVERTURNS CONVENTIONAL WISDOM.

When speaking of YKK Group’s strategy, I always use two words. One was “Internationalization,” which referred to producing and marketing in a single country or region, which was our method in the past. This is now changing into “Globalization,” which refers to finding the very best business solutions, regardless of national borders. For example, YKK people who involve in production management in an Asian plant must be aware of consumer trends in Europe. Of course, the reverse applies as well. At the global level, a new business model must be devised. And meeting that challenge is vital to young, flexible YKK people.

THE WILL OF EACH YKK PERSON TO MEET THE CHALLENGES THEY FACE POWERS THE ABILITY OF YKK GROUP TO MOVE ON THROUGH.

There are many routes to choose from when climbing a mountain. The route any person takes to reach a high objective is up to that person, of course. But every YKK Group person must remember that it is the Group way to keep moving forward aggressively. Some managers may pound on the desk and shout, “You’re not aggressive enough!” And some older colleagues may advise “You’re trying to be aggressive too early.” I often see this type of thing while moving around the company. I do think that the YKK Group is a very exciting field for the player who loves to meet and overcome challenges.
